Fast-Acting Nitrogen with Calcium
Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (CAN)
Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (CAN) is a popular nitrogen fertilizer that combines ammonium nitrate with calcium carbonate (limestone). It typically contains 27–28% nitrogen, split equally between the fast-acting nitrate form and the slower ammonium form.
The calcium content (approximately 8%) helps maintain soil pH and improves soil structure, making CAN one of the most soil-friendly nitrogen fertilizers available. It is less acidifying than straight ammonium fertilizers.
CAN is widely used for top-dressing cereals, maize, pastures, and vegetables. Its dual nitrogen release makes it effective across a range of soil types and climatic conditions.
